The Eco Valley by Intodesign Lab + Chai Si Yong

The competition is sponsored by NAZA TTDI Sdn Bhd and organized by PAM (Malaysian Institute of Architects) for the development of the 2 sites, Puchong (Site A) and Shah Alam (Site B). The competition started in Sept 2010 and assessed in 3 stages. We have participated the competition for both of the sites in collaboration with Ar Chai Si Yong, my architectural mate. Our Puchong (Site A) entry was shortlisted to the final stage and selected as the 3rd Prize winner of the competition.

Hong San Si Temple Celebration 凤山寺庙会

The Hong San Si Temple, located at the junction of Wayang Street (花香街) & Ewe Hai Street (友海街), was originally built by the Hokkien clansmen in 1848 with the host deity of the temple is Kong Teck Choon Ong (广泽尊王). Each year, on the 22nd day of the 2nd month of Lunar calender, the temple will celebrate the birthday of the deity with offering ceremony and the street procession. This temple celebration, particularly the night street procession with colourful traditional performance is part of our important local cultural & heritage events which has been held annually.

New Market @ Siburan 新生村

The marketplace is not only filled with natural light that cast into the hall from the perimeter; it serves as a place to house the multiracial community within the local context. I like that atmosphere which full of natural light and 'colors'.

* Siburan (新生村) is a small town located at 17th mile from Kuching City center

Sketch at Chawan Road project site, Kuching, 21.03.2010

Siting on the higher land along the chawan road, we introduced the 360 panoramic view of the Kuching city to the project. By using the unusual alignment on the facade treatment, we try to be little 'fancy' and keep the project within the tight budget contraint. Currently under construction and targeted to be completed by end of June 10.

Sketch 'exploded diagram'

I always prefer my students to include the 'exploded diagram' onto their presentation board. For me, it is kind of useful technique to show the elements of the design and also their interconnection within the design.
